You think Whole Foods is a beautiful store. You should see the beautiful people in the back who make it all possible!   I was set up in the employee lounge and anybody who wanted to spend her or his break sitting in front of me to be drawn funny, could be drawn…funny.    Great atmosphere.  Loved it.  Learned that Lhakpa in Tibetan means Wednesday, Pawku in Burmese means Flower and Adiel means ornament of god in a Canaanite language.  The oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips and cranberries were to die for, abundant, and free. This is how companies should be run:  show the folks who work for you that you appreciate them.  Builds moral, good for them, good for you.  Thank you, Calandra!

Doreen is retiring from Topco.  I don’t know what all she’s getting as a retirement gift from the company, but she will certainly enjoy this colorful caricature showing her with her favorite things to do.  Because the drawing is 11 x 14, a nice large size, the various elements in it come across as important and lively.  It makes for a nice presentation.  Congratulations, Doreen!  Best to you!

A healthcare company’s sales team  was  being treated to dinner by the president and the top sales people got awards.  Everybody got a caricature by that well- known artist, what’s her name.  Dinner at Opa’s in Vernon Hills was all about Greek delicacies and the view to the lake and the rolling lawns was soothing.  It’s always a pleasure.  Thank you, Janet!

What a great place for a birthday party!  You’re turning eleven and you invite your girlfriends to, ta-tah, “Girlfriends.”  Girlfriends—a professional nail and girlie boutique (even their web site is fun)–is on Tower Road just off Green Bay in Winnetka.  It’s classy and the choices of colors and techniques are amazing.  I drew all twenty girls in an hour and a half, working with Utrecht markers on foam core, 20 x 32. Cake and refreshments were on a long table in the middle of all this fun, glamor and style.  Hey, they’ve done this before at Girlfriends!   At the end, the colorfully manicured girls pulled out their phones to get a shot of the finished drawing.  Happy birthday, Claudia!

The photos I worked from showed an exceedingly neat man who was obviously proud to wear that handsome uniform.  He worked for Kraft Foods in relation to the Commissary.  Love drawing those perspective lines!   Congratulations, Stoney!

The son is turning thirty and the husband is turning seventy.   30 + 70 = 100.  You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that this adds up to “Time to celebrate!”   Actually one of them was a physicist of the super collider variety, pretty close to a rocket scientist.  Also represented in this family gathering were lawyers and art historians.  I know, because I asked, “so, what do you do?”  It was a very casual, comfortable, cozy family get together and everybody was good looking.  The chocolates were age appropriate: milk chocolate was marked “30” and the dark chocolate, “70.”  Of course.  What would you do with such numbers!   Happy Birthdays, Matt and Ken!

Jay has a cottage by a lake in Wisconsin and when he left Kraft, where he had the Sam’s Club account, I got to draw him in the caricature mode.  It’s a tradition at Kraft.  When you leave, transfer or retire, you get a caricature by this at-the-verge-of-being-famous artist.  C’est moi.  I love this gig.  Doesn’t he look mellow!?  Chillin’ Jay, best to you!

As I was drawing the bat-mitzvah, I asked her what the topic of her speech in the synagogue had been.  She said, it was that you should do good without expecting to be rewarded.

You see, I go to my job to make people laugh and that’s fine.  And in return, I get so much more than a pay check.  I get inspired.  A twelve year old girl who had her long blond hair curled in the 19th century manner for this occasion and asked for a caricaturist and dress up stuff to be photographed in with her friends , well, this girl was wise and inspiring.  Thank you, Julia.

The Sugar Creek Golf Club in Villa Park was a perfect setting for this cozy family party to celebrate Kaylee and Karlee’s first birthday.  It was a warm early-spring Sunday afternoon, but a bit blustery and so most  guests preferred the party room.  There were lots of toddlers and school age kids and I drew them all, with time left over for some couples.  Bailee, age ten months, and  propped in a high chair at a table close to me, showed interest in my work as soon as I arrived.  Here she is, curious about how she turned out.  The twins, Karlee and Kaylee, took time out from their social obligations and finally sat for me, but only for a few seconds.  A few seconds is all it really takes sometimes.  I’ve learned that one-year-olds have to be drawn very fast.  It’s fun.    Thank you, Brittney!
