13ForestVill3b

Ramses has big biceps, a dimple–see the heart?–and a “MOM” tattoo.  Handsomest pharaoh ever.

13ForestVill3This was a party for the staff and their families.  The first theme was Hawaiian—Hawaiian music, dancers, lessons in gyrating your hips and exotic recipes at the buffet tables. The second theme was “back-to-school:”  the kids got goodie bags full of school supplies.  Isn’t that great?!  I was set up in a gazebo in the garden.  The whole thing was idyllic.  Loved working at this event!  I drew sixteen people in two hours, in full color.  Thank you, Krystal!————-

13SmithVill10It’s great to be invited back to this elegant retirement home at 113th and Western.  The kids and grandkids spend the afternoon and enjoy food and gifts and, of course, caricatures by that famous artist Whatsername.

13SmithVill10bIt was great to work in color on 11 x14 paper, which has the advantage of fitting four people on the same page while allowing for some expressive details.  I enjoyed this crowd. The conversations got pretty interesting—history, geography and the invention of the microscope.  I drew twenty-three people in three hours– in full color.

Thank you, Jayne and Emily!———————————-

13EngagementHorse2He’s a cop, she’s in law school and they both love horses.  A family friend came up with the idea—brilliant, I must say—of having them caricatured riding double.  Perfect gift!

The client’s enthusiastic response came in two emails:

—-“Thank you once again for a Wonderful experience on this project. You are incredibly talented, and are making tons of people happy and giddy in this often time negative world. Thank you for your supreme patience and creativity! Good luck in the future….I may contact you again  :)”

—-“As soon as Trevor & Katie opened the wrapped frame, I had the party photographer snap a few pics. Then I posed them in the same position as the caricature, and snapped a few more. Hopefully, I can see them soon!  🙂

But, yea…. their initial reaction seeing themselves in cartoon is Amazing!  :)”

Thank you, Pete!——————————————

13Hildreth3

A glorious summer day in an idyllic semi-country town, where kids ride their bicycles down the middle of narrow streets.  Family and friends gathered on a Sunday afternoon to celebrate Katelyn’s tenth birthday.  I drew fourteen kids in one hour. Many of them were avid artists themselves and so I gave out samples of my drawing paper to them a talked a little about it.  They loved it!

I was called to draw at this party because last year I had drawn Katelyn and her mom at a family event in Paradise Park Assisted Living in Fox Lake. Two years ago I drew mom and grandma,  who  lives at Paradise Park.  Both drawings were now framed and Katelyn’s mom brought them out during this birthday party.  She said, she loved them!  Thank you, Amy!————————————–

13Hohmeier6b

Make it comfortable!  Hold the reception in the parent’s back yard. You need a tent strung with little white 13Hohmeier6lights, a good buffet, a DJ who knows your groove, and a caricaturist—that would be me, of course. When the food was cleared out, the lawn became the dance floor, as in “and now, everybody out on the dance grass!”  The dominant colors were orange and green.  Loved it!  I drew twenty-five people in three hours and in full color.  Thank you, Anneliese!

13Pesche14b

Because it was Marc Anthony’s thirteenth birthday, he got his caricature in color.  I drew everybody else—and 13Pesche14that would be nineteen others ( in an-hour-and-a-half)—in black/white.  Let me take this opportunity to contrast and compare.  A line drawing (black/white) has all the humor, expression and likeness that a color drawing has.  It is not inferior to a color drawing.  In fact, I would say, a line drawing is more elegant than a color drawing.  But then, elegance-shmelegance.  It’s a caricature!  So, now I’m going to contradict everything I said before.  A caricature in color 13Pesche13has that extra kick.  The humor and expression really are heightened by color:  blue eyes become BLUE, blond hair becomes BLOND, lips will be PINK or RED!  Etc.  The grass is always greener…in a color.   I like working equally well in black/white and color.  At a party, when the guest of honor gets the color drawing and everybody else gets the line drawing, the guests are gracious about this decision on the part of the parent/host.  Nobody has ever complained about getting 13Pesche13b

“only” black/white.  Because– now we’re back to the beginning–black/white is just as good as color. The choice is always yours.

Thank you , Thera!———————————————

13RetiringChgoPoliceCouple

A married couple, both Chicago Police Officers, worked together and—ta-tah—got to retire at the same time.  My drawing of them, I was told, would be presented at a big party at the station.  I like that!  One of the things, I’m sure that people will comment on is the fact that her hair is long and blowing in the wind instead of being pinned up, according to Police Department regulations.  Thank you again, Dan!
