“This is my boyfriend,” she said,  “he was the head of the football team, but now he’s just the head.”

Her face and arms were dripping blood from horrible black-purple swellings. Her socks were torn and had a bone sticking out.

13Esrock12Where ARE we?!  We’re at a corporate golf outing at the very posh Cog Hill Golf Club on Archer Avenue in Lemont. It’s the middle of September, a beautiful, sunny Monday afternoon.  I know, I have some splainin’ to do.  I promise to try and I’ll  have more pictures from this fantastic event in the next blog.  For now, let’s just say, this may be the best/worst drawing I have ever done.

This young computer company is located in a leafy corporate park in Lombard.  The offices are spacious with good art on the walls. Dress is casual. Hey, everybody knows that we do our best thinking when we’re wearing sandals!  The reception area in the front is comfortably furnished but it needed something distinctive on the walls.  Ta-tah!  The office manager thought of caricatures.  She organized a little Friday lunch on the grounds and invited me to draw all of these thirty clever people, which I did amid much chatting in three hours. I thoroughly enjoyed this crowd.

I haven’t talked about technique in a while.  Here’s a tip when you judge a caricature:  few lines, the fewer 13SinglePath4bthe better.  That’s why I put Marty in the lead position here.  Few lines AND it looks like him.  The likeness, of course, is key.  If it doesn’t look like the person…well, what can you say, it’s embarrassing and a waste of T & M.  To get a likeness in a few minutes, like 3 or 4 (which was the case here), takes a lot of practice and then a lot of concentration. I love this work.

Here’s what the incomplete display looked like that afternoon.  Thank you, Laura!

13Wed28thWentworth1bThis was the New Furama at 28th and Wentworth.  I was set up in the satin draped reception room and did not see all the entertainment that was presented, but I know I was one of many entertainers at this lavish wedding reception.  I drew twenty-three people in high spirits, as you can see in this small sampling.  Thank  you ,Phung and Thuy!——————————————————–

This past Saturday–an exhilarating afternoon in Milwaukee’s Greenfield Park.  This was an upscale 13MilwDerse11crowd, employees and families of a young, sophisticated marketing company that is so successful, they’re going international.  The weather was ideal and, as you can see, everybody had a good hair day!  What more could a caricaturist ask for?  I loved every minute, drew thirty-two people in three hours—in the larger format, 11 x 14.  Here are a few pictures.  Thank you, Tammy!

The drive from Evanston to Milwaukee isn’t bad at all.  Hey, Milwaukee, I’m ready for ya!—————————

13Edgerton8

The weather got blustery for this employees-and-families  picnic in Milwaukee last weekend.  When the wind sprayed some rain over my paper, it was time 13Edgerton8bto abandon the tent and move inside.  I’ve noticed that rainy weather has a mellowing effect, which means people will take their time to come around to be drawn, which means in this case that I drew only thirty-seven people in five hours—but in full color and on 11 x 17.  The Packers fans loved my work and they were all Packers fans!  The game was on the whole time I was drawing and was a general subject of conversation all around me.  Thank you, Tamara!——–

13CookCountySheriffNot Wyatt Earp and not Dodge City.  Not from NYPD, not from LAPD, not from The Wire, not from Men in Black.  But he was a sheriff, he was retiring and he loved golf.  That’s all I was told.  Oh, and his territory was somewhere around Skokie.  Well, that’s enough to work with.  So here he is, in command of the situation…all except the golf ball, which is getting outahere The shirt is the official one from the job, the knee-pants (knickers?) are purple and green.  The belt, instead of bullets, has golf tees.   Don’t know his name, he was Da Sheriff.  Best to you, Sheriff.  Thank you, Mark.

Hard working employees deserve a couple of hours on the sunny patio.  They enjoyed food, games and caricatures by me. I drew twenty-eight people in two-and-a-half hours. Thank you, Caily!
