SleeveRip
Chicago Police Officer retires. He loves his job, loves Chicago, loves his Harley. He is shown ripping off the sleeve with the CPD star to reveal a tattoo on his bicep: #1 Tact Guy. Now, I don’t know what that refers to. Is “tact” short for “tactical,” or was he the most tactful guy on the force? Or is tact a tactile part of the Harley engine? No matter, this was fun to draw. Anytime you come up with an activity to put into the drawing, the work will be stronger than, say, having someone sit at a desk with a lot of awards around him/her. Oh, please, give me a ripping idea and I’ll tactically ride with it.

PascalBI drew twenty-six dental hygienists at the Hyatt. (A funny sentence. Say it fast.) It was their convention and the tables were full of pokey, sharp tools. It must have been a relief for these women (almost all were women) to find Pascal Dental, for whom I worked that afternoon, to sit down for 5 minutes for a caricature by– ta-tah!—that famous Chicago caricaturist and have a good therapeutic, stress-relieving belly laugh. I tend to think that a sense of humor is a sign of superior intelligence (an occupational bias of mine) and so I came away with

PascalAthe feeling that these dental hygienists all have more brain power than is required for picking the right scraping tool after they say, “open wide.”
I love their reactions and that’s what you see here. You can tell from the drawings that I had as much fun as they did during those two hours. Thank you, Steve and Juliana.

And what about this trio? What could be the dynamic in that office?  They thought this was a riot!————-

DuncanBThe Duncan Kids Academy enrolls kids from six weeks to five years old. I first did the picnic with Rick Duncan in Gurnee a couple of years ago, when he was just starting his programs. Now he’s opening an academy in the West Loop and working with very upscale parents . Anyway, last Thursday he held a morning event at the Mary Bartelbe Park at Monroe and Peoria, Chicago. There were games, refreshments, a fantastic trio of musicians and that famous caricaturist, mmmm, moi. I drew at least fifty DuncanAkids, whew! That’s in just three hours. But the event was well organized and so it was one squirmy, puzzled toddler after the other, no gaps, which I love. The kids were puzzled by this business of being asked to look at this stranger with the drawing board and you can see that in the expressions I put into the drawing—because that’s what I saw. But the parents absolutely love these drawings.
The fabulous musician was Lia Nicine McCoo, lia.mccoo@icloud.com. She wore purple, you can’t miss her.

motorcycle
“My husband loves motorcycles,” she said. The rest of the information came from the photos themselves. The two of them were always near water, at the lake or the ocean. “Put something in there for our tenth anniversary,” she said, trusting my judgment, so I wrote “10 years of sunshine” on the motorcycle’s wind barrier. This project was a breeze. Thank you, Eva.
She loved it, btw, and today they’re off on a trip.
