It was a comfortable afternoon with gracious people all around. I drew 20 of these lovely  people in two hours.

Thank you, Lesa.

Schaumburg is a western suburb of Chicago where only beautiful people are allowed to live and this restaurant made beautiful people look positively regal.  Loved it!

Thank you, Violetta.

That was last December, actually, but I’m only just now catching up on my posts.  What a great party!  IUPUI Chemistry professors and their families huddled together at the cozy Hollyhock Hill restaurant on College Ave near 82nd.  Other chemists there worked in industry—like beer production.  You can see one of those walking along with a dripping beer glass. Here’s to Sun King Brewery!

I drew thirty-six of these peppy people in three hours.

This was a bat-mitzvah at Hackney’s in Glencoe.  I drew thirty-five teenagers in three hours.  That’s a clipping pace, which was made possible by the mom’s excellent organization of the event and her decision to go with black-and-white drawings. When the host’s emphasis is on getting the most people drawn, b/w is the logical choice.  Notice, also, that the bodies are not in activities, which also take extra time to draw.  But what I did get into the drawing is attitude, don’t you agree.  Attitude is so important in a caricature!  Especially with kids, where I really don’t do sarcasm.  That would be psychologically risky for young people, I think, and I’m not there to poke them into self-doubt.  (Save that for adults, hmmm.)

Thank you, Keri!

Wedding with Makowiec

As you know by now, if you’ve been following this blog, the last people drawn at a late-running party often gets to show a bit of skin.  This engineer was the last person to pose for me at this genteel Polish wedding. The hairiness is all the funnier because he was actually very cultured.  (So, naturally, he got the joke.)

You can see how poised and refined even the younger kids are. Every social group has a certain ambiance and I love walking in and reading the crowd to get a feeling of how funny I’m allowed to make the drawings.  This was a secure bunch and my pen just danced away. Thank you, Marta.
