Duncan Kids Academy opened another center, the one on West Madison, and celebrated the occasion with a block party and open house. I had done two of their events before and was delighted to be asked back for this major expansion. The very little kids get fidgety as they sit on mom’s lap while I draw them, but it only takes about a minute for me to get the features down on paper. So, the child doesn’t appreciate what I do, but the parents absolutely love having these drawings for the child’s room. I drew forty-four children in three-and-a-half hours. Here are some of them. Thank you, Rich and Christine.

Drawing Chiropractors and Acupuncturists in St. Charles

It was an open house to attract people and get them acquainted with this healing center on Main Street. There was food, a face-painter and, ta-tah, moi. Oh, and free massages, of course, and questions answered. A delightful excuse to hang out for a couple of hours on a sunny afternoon in what has become a perfect October. I drew twenty-three people in two-and-a-half hours. Thank you, Anita.

Company Picnic in Downers Grove

A large company dealing with gastrointestinal fun and
games threw itself a big party under a white tent. The occasion for the festivity was their relocation into this smart, elegant new building in Downers Grove. Employees brought family members to help them celebrate the company’s winning strategy on the gastrointestinal endoscopial game board. There was a long food line, a suave DJ and that famous caricaturist Whatsername. There was dancing and news about how the kids are doing.I didn’t overhear any
conversations about gastrointestinal endoscopy, though. Probably because it was a picnic, hmmm. I drew forty-five people in four hours. Thank you, Kayla!

Spex and Chameleon in Oak Park

Spex on Oak Park Avenue in Oak Park had a grand opening a couple of weeks ago. (I’m catching up with my posts here.) Spex carries upscale eyewear and because they were especially promoting some of their French lines, it was appropriate to get a caricaturist who knew some French. They chose
me, but I need to explain about the French part before we go on: my French grammar, learned in college, sounds better when I’m conversing with people who don’t speak French than when real native speakers are around, which was the case in this sophisticated place. But still, the French couple and their daughter Manon understood me and I understood them. It was fun. What wasn’t so much fun was the fact that later I accidentally deleted all my shots from this wonderful event.
But all was not lost. I remembered drawing the proprietor of “Chameleon,” a cool clothing store just a couple of doors down the street from Spex. Nick Heitzman was game for a photo op with his Hilden caricature and so I drove back to Oak Park a few days later to get this documentation of my drawing of him, which was one of my favorites from the Spex event.
Spex had asked me to preprint the drawing paper with their logo, which is a great idea for any corporate event like a promotion or an opening.
Chameleon is a neat little shop, by the way, recommended to all who want to give the imagination some free reign and like to buy from a smart, engaging store manager.
