That would be the Biaggi in Deer Park, in that huge mall at Long Gove and Rand. It was a baby shower. Definitely on the fabulous side! I drew forty-one people in three hours,  the parental couple being in color. Thank you Aleksandra!

Babyshower1
Stephanie and Carolyn met as four-year-olds on a playground and have been friends ever since. So, naturally Stephanie threw Carolyn, in her eighth month, a baby shower. We were in the Dolcetto Room (how sweet!) at Maggiano’s at Old Orchard in Skokie. I drew the couple first, in color (and you can tell it’s a girl), then the husband/father left for Barnes & Noble and I drew the twenty-one guests, all women, of course, in black/white –in two hours. Thank you, Stephanie.

13LangCoupleExpecting

If you scroll down in this blog you’ll notice that baby showers are becoming something of a specialty for me.  I welcome this 13LangCplExpectBIGdevelopment in my career.  I love drawing the pregnant couple with the Out! Out! speech bubble  over the tummy and mommy’s dress will be either pink or blue, depending on who’s expected. And, of course, everybody is so UP and excited with expectation.

Here’s what the host and expectant father  wrote about be in his feedback to the party planning agency through which he had found me:  ” Katherine arrived 30 min early just as she said to set-up, she was very warming, and full of excitement while interacting with people she was drawing. Her work is truly special and unique!! She managed to capture the personalities of everybody she worked with in her drawings!! I without a doubt know that she took the party from good to great with her drawings, energy, and most importantly her professionalism. I look forward to having her at all of my events in the future, she’s just that good!! Thank you  [party planning agency] and a very special thank you to Katherine Hilden you are truly a great talent, artist, and person, thank you.”

Thank you, David!  Best to you, Dominique and the baby girl!

12AnishCouple6babyBIG

This baby shower was held at the Indian Garden Restaurant in Schaumburg.  I would ask one of these upscale couples, “where did you meet?” and the answer might be “Paris” or “London.”

12AnishCouple6So, “upscale” is putting it mildly.  The ambient language, however, was Hindi.  When I asked the host, whose name was Anish, whether he knew Anish Kapoor, he said,” oh, the bean guy?”  Yes, the bean guy, the brilliant artist who designed “Cloud Gate”—the  bean—in Millenium Park.   And yes, Anish means “supreme.”

If I lived in or near Milwaukee, the Anaba Tea Room on Capitol Drive would be a regular hang out for me.

As it is, I’ll have to wait for another party in that lovely space.  I was up there three weeks ago for a baby shower with twenty  guests and I drew all of them in three hours and in color.

I had come early and was able to enjoy the tranquil setting and learn all about that fantastic plant the Chestnut Vine, which encircles the light well in the center of the building.

Thank you, Anne.  Best wishes to you, Laura!
