It was a hot, humid Saturday and they still came out in droves to this company picnic held on the grounds of their automotive technology company in Vernon Hills. VernonHills1

Among the dozens I drew that afternoon, there were some pretty dramatic people for me to enjoy putting on paper.  Have a look.

13ASGE26bA large company dealing with gastrointestinal fun and 13ASGE26games threw itself a big party under a white tent.  The occasion for the festivity was their relocation into this smart, elegant new building in Downers Grove.  Employees brought family members to help them celebrate the company’s winning strategy on the gastrointestinal endoscopial  game board.  There was a long food line, a suave DJ and that famous caricaturist Whatsername.  There was dancing and news about how the kids are doing.I didn’t overhear any 13ASGE11conversations about gastrointestinal endoscopy, though.  Probably because it was a picnic, hmmm.   I drew forty-five people in four hours.  Thank you, Kayla!

This company picnic could serve as a template on how to organize company picnics.  It was held at the All Saints picnic grounds on Higgens near Dee.  The grounds are shady, with large trees, and spacious so that those who want rock n’ roll can enjoy that and those who don’t can get far enough away to enjoy the trees.  Excellent food, of course, and lots of cold drinks.  I was set up under a white tent with several picnic tables.  Most important, there was a list.  People were signed up in 5-minute intervals and somebody from human resources was in charge of making that system work.  And—thank you!—a couple of short breaks for the artist were scheduled in.

The picnic was a celebration of the employes and their families and therefore children got preferential treatment in the caricature tent.  But I drew adults, too.

A wonderful afternoon!  It’s safe to say, that was true for everybody there.  Thank you, Gail.
