GaryWed1The Pavilion in Marquette Park in Gary is the place to see and be seen. It’s laid out so that an expansive balcony faces West, which is appropriate for evening events. When I arrived, the bridal party and guests were enjoying their photo ops with the sunset behind them. GaryWed5I noticed a girl, about nine or ten, sketching the view. Getting all dressed up for this formal event, she had the presence of mind to bring a sketch pad along! That’s how we are, we artists: our art can easily override social obligations. Ha. This was a touching sight for me.
After cocktails the party moved upstairs to the grand ball room, a intelligently planned space, with high ceiling, balcony and arcade. I drew thirty-seven people in two-and-a-half hours. Thank you, Uzma!—-

We’re on a quiet cul de sac in Gary, IN, and the kids are all smart and college bound, having just graduated from a boarding school in Crown Point.  Calculus?  Oh, yeah, with proofs.  Medicine, engineering and teaching were the main career plans.  Congratulations to all!

Baby Grand

Gary is finishing his first year at Julliard.  That’s already an accomplishment.  He worked so hard and practiced so much that sometimes he forgot to put his pants on before leaving his hole-in-the-wall apartment.  No, that must be a joke, but that’s what I was asked to draw.  (This way of playing a grand  comes straight out of Peanuts:   Schroeder plays Beethoven,  Gary’s favorite.  Thank you , Mr. Schulz.)

Congratulations Gary!  Keep practicing; you know that’s the only route to take to Carnegie Hall.
