13Mokena1b

When this drawing of Delaney and her friends and sister was done, it was immediately put up in 13Mokena1Delaney’s room.  Pretty safe to say, it was a hit.  Girls that age are fun to draw, but not without some  challenges.  For one thing, all that hair.  For another, they want it funny, but you know, like, not too funny.  But obviously, they loved this.  Thank you, Colleen.  Happy Birthday, Delaney!

If your mom’s name is Cricket, all your friends will want to come to your birthday party.  Not to mention the dogs, one of whom was a white Great Dane the size of a pony.  Her name was Mama and “get in your cage, Mama” sounded startling to a visitor.  But there’s much  to observe and learn on my gigs.  Thank you, Cricket, and Happy Birthday, Jasmine!

Why not!  End-of-school picnics are common, but how about a picnic in September to start the school year, too?!  Start with a happy, optimistic, bonding experience!

These girls attended an Orthodox Jewish High School and wore elegant long black skirts.  They looked elegant to me, but the girls were obviously used to long skirts and jumped and ran and threw water balloons without regard for elegance, just having a good time. There were four female caricaturists (all of us in long skirts and long high-necked shirts and closed-toe shoes, whew, it was in the 90’s) drawing, all together, eighty girls.  I know I drew twenty-four in two hours.————————————————————————

Normally, the minimum time for a party is two hours, but I made an exception –executive decision!—to drive to Mount Prospect for just one hour.  I drew all seven girls in that time, a pleasure for me because they were just so thrilled to get these drawings.  It’s a great age to be, obviously, you can see that from these photos that show their reaction when they first see the finished drawing.  Happy Birthday, Samantha!

Somebody should do a study of why eleven year old girls are so wonderful.  They are probably my favorite demographic in the caricature business.  The absolute best crowd for caricaturing is undoubtedly the inebriates at a December party, but they are so special, they don’t count in the real order of things.  Right after them would come the super-smart such as the Intelligrated party I did last summer [see index at right]  and, ta-tah, eleven-year-old girls.  Pure delight and spontaneity.  The pen just flows over my paper.  Love every moment.  Thank you, John and Laura.  Happy Birthday, Sophia!

(For December parties, see posts Dec 13, Jan 8 & 31, and Feb 4, 2012. For the smart people I’m highlighting here, posts Nov 8 & 9, and Dec 30, 2011)

Here’s a small selection of the twelve runners I drew in Lake Forest (see previous post) plus the nanny from Salzburg, Austria.   Everybody thought this was hilarious.
