The head of a high powered Chicago law firm hosted this holiday party for his partners and staff and their LawFirmBfamilies. Here are some pictures from that cozy Sunday afternoon in December. Thank you, Bruce and Anne!

NatalyA
Nataly invited family and friends to her ninth birthday NatalyBparty. There were games in the back yard. I was set up inside, in dad’s study, and there was always somebody sitting in that wing chair to be drawn. That’s because mom had the whole thing well organized. As for working in color, you can see that for kids this really is the way to go. I drew at least nine-teen people in two-and-a-half hours in full color. Thank you, Mindy.

14FuddruckersAAt Fuddruckers in Highland Park you come as you are,  your sweats, your shirt hanging out, your hoodie. Not to worry, the table linen consists of paper towels on dowels. So, this was a very informal celebration of  Ayal’s 13th birthday and simultaneously his bar-mitzvah. I didn’t get a photo of my drawing of him, just got swept up in the excitement. The boys really did get totally involved. But enough, let me quote one of the uncles I drew after I had drawn all 14 boys:
“I was actually in a state of amazement over you sitting in a rolling sea of sweet and boisterous adolescent boys and as you worked, you appeared so very comfortable with them — laughing, taking in all that they were loudly proposing — laughing and responding as if you were truly enjoying them as much as they were enjoying you — because you were!! Honestly, it was so great to see. .. you are wonderful!”  Thank you, Uncle Bill.
Thank you, Rhonda.

Their husbands are executives in an international company and so they move around a bit. They talk about London, Rome or Rio as if these were neighboring suburbs.  Everybody speaks a handful of languages—fluently.  I drew thirteen of these cosmopolitan women, who came from India, Australia, Denmark, Germany, France, Argentina, Belgium, Britain and the Faroe Islands.  I practiced a little French and German on them and asked to hear some Faroese, which sounds a lot like Swedish.    Art, culture, food…pretty good company, I must say.  They were celebrating the birthday of a member, the founder of this ex-pat club.  I drew them all in an hour-and-a-half and then was invited to enjoy some of their fabulous pot-luck.  Thank you, Jackie.  Happy Birthday, Eva!

The baby grand’s lid was covered with family pictures—weddings, family gatherings, beaming toothy kids. Great food, relaxed friends.  Before I sat down to drawn I caught glimpses of the art collection:  Ed Paschke, Max Beckman.  Good company, I thought.  As I drew one of the couples, the dentist half of the duo reminded me offhandedly to do a good job, because I had to measure up to the standard of Roy Lichtenstein, whose paintings were in the collection here.  Very funny.   A great evening.  Thank you, Stacey and Lowell.

That’s a small selection of the twenty-four drawings I did in those two hours. Just for fun, here’s my caricature of Roy Lichtenstein, coincidentally also done this December as one in a series of artists I felt like drawing.
