Babyshower1
Stephanie and Carolyn met as four-year-olds on a playground and have been friends ever since. So, naturally Stephanie threw Carolyn, in her eighth month, a baby shower. We were in the Dolcetto Room (how sweet!) at Maggiano’s at Old Orchard in Skokie. I drew the couple first, in color (and you can tell it’s a girl), then the husband/father left for Barnes & Noble and I drew the twenty-one guests, all women, of course, in black/white –in two hours. Thank you, Stephanie.

The family flew in from Florida to celebrate the baby’s first birthday back in the old neighborhood, the northern suburbs of Chicago.  This made for a very lively atmosphere because some folks had not seen each other for months and there was a lot to catch up on. I drew all the kids and then some parents, as time allowed.  You can see, that the parents got all my caricature “ammo.”  Loved it!

At Maggiano’s on Grand I got to listen to Mozart and Broadway tunes performed by a duo consisting of clarinet and cello. An unusual and wonderful combination!  We were celebrating Izzy’s bat-mitzvah. I love this age because the kids are both goofy (pizza hats and balloon shoes) and sophisticated (“that’s not a completely logical analysis”).  I drew twenty-four of these bright people.  The drawings were right on, but my camera settings were less than expert, as anyone can see here.

Congratulations, Izzy!
