The Francesca’s Restaurants are always lovely.  This one was in Northbrook. Estelle was turning seventy and her daughter 13MichelleW12Michelle invited her closest friends.  It was a semi-surprise party.  Estelle expected just a few of the family and then—oh, my !—there was a whole room full, about thirty people. I drew most of them.  An interesting  bunch.  One of the people I drew was a cartoonist named Ken Krimstein, who has had SEVEN cartoons published in The New Yorker.  Ok, does everybody know how hard it is to just get one in and what a jaw dropping achievement seven is?!!  Being a subscriber, I was able to describe his latest cartoon, recalling the detail of the woman sitting in her kitchen.  That was fun.

Happy Birthday, Estelle!  Thank you, Michelle.

(Above, Rabbi Shlomo and his dancer wife, who got the extreme treatment from me precisely because they were sooooo refined and gracious.  It’s in the rule book.)
