Weddings are great.  Friends and family looking their best, full of hope and good wine.  I drew thirty-six people in three hours, amid great hilarity.  Except for the school principal from northern Michigan who admonished me to go easy on her because she wanted to hang this in her office;  so I did a proper drawing and you can easily pick it out in the gallery below.   Most of these drawings are not accompanied by the shot of the real person because it was too dark, as happens so often at these late night events.  And the little ones were half asleep by ten o’clock.  Thank you, Scott and Jen!  Much happiness to you!!——————————–

Laughter is therapeutic; it dilates the arteries and momentarily releases all tension. Read all about it!   Well, not here exactly.  But I witness this therapeutic effect all the time and document it in these posts by showing the reactions of the people when they first see the drawing.

The Hallmark on Sheridan Road is a residence for seniors, some of whom require quite a bit of help on a daily basis.  How do you throw a party for people who rely on walkers to get across the room?  How to add a little wildness into their life?

It was mid-afternoon on a recent Tuesday and the buffet table in the fifth-floor party room held some plates of shrimp and other nibbles and, ta-tah, red wine.  By definition, that makes the occasion a Happy Hour. But, I assure you,  the ladies didn’t start laughing and opening up until they saw my caricatures of them.  What a rewarding experience for these nonagenarians.  And for me, the artist, who devised all this sneaky therapy from them!  Thank you, Emily and Beverly!  ——————————-

Denim and Silk

You can be forty and trim and youthful and live in a gated community.  Who knew.  You can look like a college track star and have four beautiful children and have ten-foot-high burgundy raw-silk curtains in your sunroom, which also has a swimming pool in it.  Not only that, but all your friends can …ditto, mostly.  The bar looked, well, like a bar. The cake was three-tiered, the wine glasses were the size of soup-tureens.  The livin’ was obviously good.  So, this surprise party for the husband’s 40th birthday in Mundelein last Saturday was definitely on the grand side, though all the guys wore jeans with shirts hanging out (every one of them) and the women kept the jewelry low key and somehow the plates disappeared without any servants in sight.  The jokes were flying and the humor was pointed since these guys were all buddies.  The kids brought me chocolate-dipped strawberries while I was drawing.  Pretty nice cozy little party…in a spectacular sort of way.

Thank you, Mary and Mark.
