DOG2The people at Tails of Hope in Highland Park rescue dogs from cruel owners and bad situations, rehabilitate them and then try to find good homes for them. Last Saturday, The Grand, a supermarket on Green Bay Road in Winnetka, hosted an Adopt-a-Palooza in their parking lot. I was set up under an umbrella and had the pleasure of drawing dogs with their “persons” in close harmony. The dogs, of course, ran the show. To depict the communication and closeness between person and dog, I drew the person imitating the dog’s posture of obedience. The tongue had to hang out. This is fun to draw! Many people didn’t come with their dog and asked me to work from a photo on their smartphone, which they proudly presented. This I can do and the work was well received and with much laughter. After all, true dog lovers think their dogs are funny.  Thank you, David!

After the three-quarters of a mile long private drive way came the gate, the gardens , the big house, the coach house, and finally the pool house. After the pool house came the veranda, then the pool and then greenery as far as the eye could see. We were celebrating the host’s birthday, something with a zero in it. These people had found me because they had saved the drawing I did of them SEVENTEEN years ago (in Winnetka) and my signature was clearly legible on the drawing. They displayed the 1997 drawing in a grandiose baroque frame. I love it!
In my drawings nobody every gains weight, well, the guys do sometimes but women stay 36-22-36. All their lives, it’s a rule, I know where my bread is 14ClubLeahyBbuttered. The guys get to bear the burden of the humor and, gentlemen and scholars all,  they know how to take it. They shrug when I explain this, “well, yeah, that’s how it is.”
Fabulous party, thank you, Cathy! I drew thirty-three people in 2½ hours. Here are a few of them.

What a great place for a birthday party!  You’re turning eleven and you invite your girlfriends to, ta-tah, “Girlfriends.”  Girlfriends—a professional nail and girlie boutique (even their web site is fun)–is on Tower Road just off Green Bay in Winnetka.  It’s classy and the choices of colors and techniques are amazing.  I drew all twenty girls in an hour and a half, working with Utrecht markers on foam core, 20 x 32. Cake and refreshments were on a long table in the middle of all this fun, glamor and style.  Hey, they’ve done this before at Girlfriends!   At the end, the colorfully manicured girls pulled out their phones to get a shot of the finished drawing.  Happy birthday, Claudia!
